SupervisionWithin this alliance, I provide therapists (counsellors and psychotherapists) with a safe, confidential place to regularly explore their clinical work. During sessions we collaborate to support, explore, and enhance the efficacy of the clinical work with attention given to all stakeholders; this is achieved by focusing on the therapist’s client work through open, non-judgemental, constructive dialogue. The forum is one of mutual respect and positive critique. I abide by The Children First Act 2015 and the IACP Code of Ethics whereby my duty to the IACP as a “Gate-Keeper of the Profession” is honoured.

Method of Supervision
I am an integrative supervisor, using the Cyclical and Process Models (among others) based on a bedrock of client centred therapy; a main focus herein is our authentic working alliance. Through respectful and candid discourse, supervisees and I endeavour to develop their personal style as a therapist and their awareness of and role, skills, and resources in the therapeutic process; accordingly, fulfilling formative (e.g., skills, professional identity), restorative (e.g., affirming, emotional effects), and normative (e.g., standards, ethics) functions.
I offer Supervision to accredited, pre-accredited and trainee counsellors and psychotherapists; the parametres of which are discussed between you and me in our pre-supervision meeting and will follow guidelines as laid down by your accrediting body/college.

Online and In-person Supervision
Online Supervision has become increasingly popular in recent times and has some benefits that In-person supervision doesn’t have; for example, supervision online can minimise travel time, costs, and stresses, minimise catching/giving respiratory illnesses, enhance freedom for other demands on time, and be more accessible, cheaper, and wide-reaching.
Online Supervision is conducted on Zoom or Doxy.me: both are robust browser based platforms and (i) are user friendly, confidential, safe, and secure, (ii) meet the criteria for the IACP as they are GDPR and HIPAA compliant; and (iii) are encrypted and do not store clients’ personal data. Doxy.me does not require any downloads on the supervisee's behalf; Zoom does. The supervisee decides which platform is most suitable to use. (It's also good to have a back-up.) In-person Supervision is conducted in Teach Bhride, Chapel Lane, Tullow, Co. Carlow, R93 W447 (See here for location) and incurs an additional charge of €10 to cover overheads. Whilst the supervisee might have a preference for the mode of delivery it is important to note that colleges and governing bodies lay down limits for therapists in training using online supervision. Please ensure you know what applies to you. |
Preliminary Session
Prior to any supervision occurring, I ask that we have a brief meeting (about 30/40 minutes) to discuss terms and to see if we feel compatible with each other. There is no charge for this meeting. I ask that it is done online, but In-person can be arranged.
It would be best if you prepare for this meeting by reading my Preliminary Questions and Contract of Supervision as laid out here. |
